Main Characters

Below are the main cast of characters in the series. A brief description of their personality and information is provided for each. I have attempted to keep spoilers to a minimum, however some may still appear so proceed with caution.

Cleo

Name: Cleo
Real/Full Name: Cleopatra
Status: 21st Century Human
Played by: Jennifer Sky

In 2001, in order to make better profits as an exotic dancer, Cleo had a surgery to receive breast augmentation. However, something went wrong when she was anethesized and Cleo could not be awoken. Cleo was then chronogenetically frozen in hopes that she could be woken in the future. 500 years later she awakens in an underground hospital and meets Hel and Sarge, who are there because Sarge has been wounded by a Betrayer. Unsure of her surroundings and situation and pulling upon her acting experiance, Cleo tries to threaten Hel and Sarge but looses all bravado when the Betrayer arrives on the scene, intent on finishing off Sarge. Rather than leaving her behind, Sarge and Hel take Cleo with them and she soon joins the team.

While not a fighter by nature and severly lacking in terms on physical abilities, Cleo provides assistance to the team in terms of backup, support, and keeps the teams spirits up as well. Her acting abilities, gained from her two year stint at Clendale Community College, allow her to assist them in infiltration missions and also allows her to be the more "acceptable" public face of the team.

Hel

Name: Hel
Real/Full Name: Helen
Status: Human
Played by: Gina Torres

Hel is the team's official leader and the only member to hear "The Voice" as she has the special device implanted behind her left ear. Hel was born underground and has spent her entire life underground. She is the levelheaded member of the team and also the voice of reason. That's not to say that Hel remains calm all the time and never looses her cool however. When she was younger, the psychotic scientist known as Creegan killed Hel's father, who in turn managed to rip out half of Creegan's throat. Hel yearns for justice for her father's death and tends to get very emotional whenever Creegan is involved.

Hel has a tendency to play things a little too safe at times and strongly dislikes having to take chances that put her teammates at risk. As a result, this sometimes put her at odds with "The Voice's" orders. We see this clearly in the first few minutes of the very first episode, "Quest for Firepower", when Hel argues with Voice and refuses to pursue a mission due to a bad feeling about it. Hel is calmed down and talked into continuing by both Voice and and Sarge. Later, in that same episode, Sarge is injured and Voice instructs Hel to continue by pointing on that the mission is more important. Hel disagrees and puts Sarge's well-being before the mission. Ironically, this leads them to the lab where they meet Cleo.

Sarge

Name: Sarge
Real/Full Name: Rose
Status: Human
Played by: Victoria Pratt

Sarge was born on the Earth's surface in a "Dwork" village. She has a younger sister named Lilly who remained behind in the village. Years later, while on a mission to infiltrate a Bailey factory, Sarge and her team would come across Lilly willingly sacrificing herself to the Baileys. Sarge was angered, disgusted, and ultimately alarmed at this prospect and tried to hide her mixed feelings about her sister and the village's beliefs with contempt. Sarge puts up a tough front to conceal the softer and more feminine side of her. She finds this side of herself as weak and believes that being too nice will only invite trouble. As a result, Sarge attempts to keep everyone at arm's length which results her the failure in most of her relationships. Only her teammates are really able to get close to her.

Mauser

Name: Mauser
Status: Modified Betrayer
Played by: Patrick Kake

Mauser is a robot, specifically a betrayer, who has been modfied by Voice to assist Hel's team. The modifications made by Voice allow Mauser to function along side humans without the desire to cause them harm and allows him to behave almost like he would have had he been human. Mauser serves as the team's techie-slash-doctor and is also tuned into Voice and her location. While still fully equipped with his Betrayer-weaponry Mauser rarely uses it. He is also, much to Sarge's chagrin, not programmed for sex either.

The Voice

Name: Voice
Played by Elizabeth Hawthorne

Voice is the leader and founder of the resistance movement of humans known to the people of the Underground as "Voice Teams". Her mission in life is to see mankind one day retake the Earth's surface from the Baileys. To this end, she will do whatever needs to be done to see it accomplished. At times, Voice can become so focused on the mission itself that she is willing to sacrifice as many "pawns" as necessary to see her dream realized. Voice, despite the reverence with which she is spoken of and the blind-devoition and dependence that many of her teams gives her, is still only human and prone to human error. Her favorite team is Hel's team. Not because they're the best performing team (because they're not) but due to their ability to keep her grounded in reality. Hel's willingness to point out flaws in Voice's plans, and the team's ultimate devotion to completing missions without unecessary reminds Voice of her humanity and the very thing they're fighting for. In reality, because of her omniscent persona that she has adopted, Voice always walks the knife-edge between megalomaniac and resistance leader.
